We have recently found out that certain chemicals (chlorine
based products) will affect gold after repeated long term exposure. It can
cause what we call spontaneous cracking. We recently had a piece of jewelry in
for repair, and we would fix one area, and then all of a sudden we would find
another crack! Whole prongs were falling off, putting the gems at risk of falling
out.
We recommend taking all of your jewelry off before you get
in a hot tub, pool, or before cleaning with products with bleach or chlorine in
them. Some hand sanitizers may have
chlorine based products in them, so read those labels carefully!! And never
ever soak your rings in bleach!!
